The Stellenbosch Institute of Photography & Multimedia Studies (Sips)  offers introduction modules in multimedia:  Internet marketing, Photography, Graphic design, CorelDraw, Photoshop,  Sales techniques, Photo-and TV. Make-up, Computer literacy, and Moviemaking with Language studies as a one year gap year program.  

At Sips. you have the choice to take up core modules to give yourself a life experience to understand the world of multimedia better and to see how all work together.

Charl Best, Dean and founder of the Institute in 1996, said that the gap year mark a crucial stage in the development of the “almost adult” The gap year students attend selective classes with the institutes full time students. Also they experience the safe University town of Stellenbosch and socialize with the other 28000 students in the winelands.

Stellenbosch is situated in the winelands, only 10 minutes from the coast and 25 minutes drive from Cape Town. The so-called gapers can also participate in additional practical workshops like, scuba diving, 4x4 driving skills, kite surfing, first aid, English, French or Japanese studies. Also volunteering work at shark research, penguin rescue, aids children in townships and scientific surveys on pollution. The gap year starts the first week in February and ends the 11 November every year. Not included is airline tickets, food, personal and medical insurance, basic camera equipment, accommodation, extra subjects, tours and study permits.

Course details:

This course is presented by professional lecturers and selected staff at Sips. The lecturers are outstanding professionals and have been specially selected to make this course a practical and exciting experience.

During the course students are offered the opportunity to undertake a 12 day  underwater and landscape tour to Thailand. (± R35  000 extra, but not compulsory).

 The 2012 course will be the 17 year of existence of Sips.

* Accommodation is optional.

* a Maximum of  20 students will be admitted to the course and incorporated with the  

    full-time students.

* Students obtain experience in various careers.

* The course is presented in English.

* Students will receive a Sips Certificate of attendance.

Course fee: R 50 000.00 plus materials R 12 000.00

 Requirements:

17 - 28 years of age.

Basic digital camera and video camera.
