If your dream is to become involved in Multimedia, why not pursue your passion and develop your skills in beautiful Stellenbosch?
The Stellenbosch Institute of Photography and Multimedia Studies (SIPS) were founded in 1996, twenty three years in existance, making it one of the oldest private photography schools in the Western Cape. During your studies you will also be able to enjoy stunning scenery, beaches, art galleries, historical sites, a vibrant nightlife, wine estates, hiking trails and a range of exciting outdoor activities. There are many fun additional practical workshops to choose from including scuba diving, 4×4 driving skills, kite surfing, first aid and even English, French or Japanese studies. If you’re into volunteering work you can participate in shark research, penguin rescue, helping AIDS children in townships and scientific surveys on pollution.

What will I learn?

First Semester

Full-time you can  study Photography, Video production and Photo and Tv. Make-up in the first Semester and do any or all as advanced studies in the second semester.
You will complete theory and practical in the basics of these subjects, which will prepare you for the advanced course in the second semester.
You can also choose Interior Design, Event Management, Fashion Design, Internet Marketing and/or Furniture Design with your main subject in the first semester only.
These subjects will give you the basics knowledge of management and design. You will do theory and practical assignments.

Second Semester

1. Advanced Photography
Moving towards the second semester the student will learn more advanced specialized techniques that will prove the student a truly professional photographer. The student will attend weekly workshops in Landscape,- Fashion,-Theatre,– Documentary,- Advertising,- Food,-Industrial,- Wedding,-Wine and Packshots,- Commercial,- and Street photography.

Practical Projects each week:

You will also have to complete a thesis of every workshop attended and most workshops will have a theoretical lecture.
Your portfolio will consist of the above workshops and you will also work in a one hour lab for one week to gain practical experience of lab management.

2.  Graphic Computers (optional)
Adobe illustrator is used for Graphic Design and we teach in depth all the tools to use to design a brochure, logo, letterhead and other corporate ID. for businesses.

Advanced Photoshop

Advanced Photoshop takes an in-depth look at the software and the advanced capabilities of the tools and functions inside of Photoshop. The aim of the course is to equip students with enough skill and knowledge to use Photoshop accurately and with absolute control. The Advanced Photoshop Course consists of 10 Sections and 10 practical assignments plus a Photoshop Portfolio Design assignment.


We teach WordPress and all the functions for you to be able to design top websites for businesses. At the end of the course you will also have your own website to advertise your skills.

You’ll learn from the best as the lecturers are experienced industry professionals. Charl Best, principal and founder of SIPS, has 30 years of experience in various forms of photography. His work has been displayed in over 15 solo exhibitions, locally and internationally, and he’s been a producer for several short movies.
a Maximum of 8 students will be admitted to the Gapyear course and incorporated with the full-time students.
Students obtain experience in various careers.
The course is presented in English.
Course fee: Same as Sips. Fulltime but add R 3000 for foreign students plus materials for extra field trips,

Who can apply?

Anyone between 16 to 28 years who finished high school and own a digital camera can apply.
